What’s up with WhatsApp?

Depending on where you live in the world, the method or application you typically use to communicate with family, friends or co-workers is often very regional

For example, in North America and Europe, most people use the built-in texting platform on their mobile phones – such as SMS text or Apple iMessage

In areas where Facebook is very prevalent, Facebook Messenger is still a major player

WeChat is the dominant platform in China – and the LINE app is popular in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand

For those who aren’t already familiar, WhatsApp is arguably the most widely used messaging app worldwide with over 2 billion users

Although WhatsApp is not as commonly used in North America, the rest of the world uses WhatsApp extensively

Originally created in 2009 and acquired by Facebook in 2014, WhatsApp has evolved to become a popular messaging platform that allows text and voice messaging as well as audio and video calls

Within Paraguay, WhatsApp is used extensively for personal and business communications
